The SSE Hydro is a 15 minute drive from Glasgow International Airport, and 45 minutes from Glasgow Prestwick Airport by direct motorway link. Both providing direct access to and from major European and North American cities. The city sits on a nationwide transport system with fast rail and road access to all the UK’s principal cities.

From the centre of Glasgow there are a number of travel options that will bring you to the front door of The SSE Hydro in a matter of minutes.

GETTING HERE

DIRECTIONS

The SSE Hydro is located approximately 1 mile from Glasgow City Centre.

Leave the M8 motorway at junction 19 and join the westbound Clydeside Expressway (A814).

Westbound on the Expressway (A814) take cut off signposted SEC East.

Turn left at traffic signals and take the right lane to access multi-storey parking at the venue.

Our postcode for sat-nav is ‘G3 8YW’.

Scotland has an extensive motorway road network. Glasgow is linked to Edinburgh by the M8 and England via the M74. You can reach Stirling via the M80, whilst the M77 connects you to the west coast of Scotland.

The AA provides information about driving in the UK including maps, routes planners and travel insurance.

Traffic Scotland provides up to date traffic and road works information.

PARKING

The multi-storey car park (MSCP) adjacent to The SSE Hydro, operated by City Parking (Glasgow) LLP, is the main parking area used for events at the venue. This facility is located at 10 Stobcross Road, Glasgow, G3 8YW.

On-site pay machines are located on level 2 (walkway level) and ground floor main foyer of the car park. Payment can be made by cash or credit/debit card. Tariff Rates in the MSCP Monday to Sunday are:

Up to 1 hour £4 2-12 hours £8 13 hours £12 14-24 Hours £16

Visitors can either pre-pay after arrival or pay before exiting.

The MSCP has a height restriction of 1.9m. Drivers with vehicles over 1.9m should report to the SEC Gatehouse (at the West of the SEC campus) in the first instance and you will be directed to an available space (subject to availability).

Please note that, in general, residential parking cannot be accommodated at the SEC complex. For more information on the multi-storey car park please contact the operators directly via their website.

 

Coach operators run services to Glasgow’s Buchanan Bus Station from throughout the UK.

The 100 Riversider service runs from George Square (north) in Glasgow city centre to the SEC, then Riverside Museum and return, every 30 minutes. A timetable is downloadable from here.

In addition, two other bus services operate from adjacent to the SEC, stopping on Lancefield Street near the Clyde Arc bridge, only a 2 minute walk from the main venue. These services travel to and from the city centre regularly.

Glasgow Prestwick Airport is south west of the city and is a 45 minute direct train link from Glasgow city centre.

Edinburgh International Airport is only 45 minutes from Glasgow, serving many of Scotland’s only direct routes to other cities, including: Brussels, Madrid, Munich and Zurich. The airport serves Scotland’s capital city and the rest of Scotland with major rail and road links to Glasgow.

EXHIBITION CENTRE STATION

Automatic ticket gates are in operation at Exhibition Centre station. Please purchase tickets in advance of travelling, as passengers will require a valid ticket to pass through the gates when boarding or alighting a train at the station.

Glasgow has the largest rail network in the UK outside London. Glasgow’s Central station connects with most UK cities and Queen Street station serves central and northern Scotland.

Six trains run per hour (roughly every ten minutes) between Glasgow Central’s low level station and the Exhibition Centre station – a journey time of only four minutes. Once you disembark, a covered walkway will take you from the station to The SSE Hydro.

Disabled Access

If travelling by train disembark at Exhibition Centre station. A lift is available to take you from the train station to street level. A covered walkway will lead you from the station exit to the west entrance of The SSE Hydro.

There is a Glasgow Taxis rank (Hackney) pick-up and drop -off point at the East entrance adjacent to the Clyde Auditorium.

There are taxi ranks throughout the city. Main pick-up points include Buchanan Bus Station, Queen Street and Central stations and most large hotels. An average journey from the city centre will cost around £5.00.

The SSE Hydro has link roads and paths that are easily navigated by bicycle as well as cycle paths that run alongside the Clyde.  Glasgow is extensively linked with the National Cycle Network as well as approved on-road cycle routes.

Environmental considerations are very important to us and we encourage staff and visitors alike to consider greener ways to travel here. The SSE Hydro supports its staff with a cycle to work initiative – join our staff in making their way to The SSE Hydro using pedal power.
